Customs and Traditions - China Hui Nationality

Posted by China Tour on February 9, 2008 at 9:58 am

The marriage traditions of the Hui people are deeply influenced by Muslim rules and the engaging procedure is very complicated. The male party needs to present “tentative bag”, “tea bag” and “gifts” for many times. A marriage is not determined until the female party makes a cup of fruit tea. The wedding ceremony is presided over by the ahong.

The Hui people believe in Muslim, and their traditions are very characteristic of religion. Mutual help, assisting the poor, paying attention to rituals and respecting the old are the traditional virtues of the Hui people.

The Hui people are good at singing and like the characteristic wedding dance “wedding toast dance” and “single-drum dance” and etc. The Festival of Fast-breaking is the grandest holiday of the Hui people.

Chaka Salt Lake - brine lake with green salt

Posted by China Tour on February 4, 2008 at 10:26 pm

Chaka Salt Lake - brine lake with green salt

It is located in the south of Chaka Town of Wulan County.

This is a brine lake and the lake bottom is covered with a layer of rock salt that is generally 5m thick, with a maximum thickness of 9.68m. The salt is naturally crystallized, with big crystal, high purity and excellent taste. Because the salt crystal contains mineral materials, the salt looks dark green and hence it is called “green salt”.

The scenes of salt extracting, sun rising on salt lake and the wonderful sight of salt flowers constitute a beautiful picture.

Taihu Lake

Taihu Lake, a vast expanse of mist, rolling waters blend with the sky in the distance.
